Another Four Apprehensions Made in Connection to Louvre Jewellery Robbery

Four additional individuals have been detained as part of the continuing probe into the previous theft of valuable jewelry at the Paris Louvre, according to the Parisian legal officials.

Specifics of the Newest Detentions

Two male suspects, 38 and 39 years old, and a duo of females, in their early thirties and forties, were taken into custody this Tuesday. They all reside in the ÃŽle-de-France region.

Among them is considered as the remaining individual of a group of four that allegedly carried out the broad-daylight robbery, according to media sources in France. The other three accused perpetrators are already in custody and formally accused, according to officials.

Police now have a maximum of four days to conduct interviews. Not a single clue has so far been found of the pilfered gems - worth an estimated €88m (£76m; $102m) - which were taken on 19 October.

Prior Charges and Denials

Four individuals have previously faced charges concerning the theft - three male and one female suspects, who similarly reside within the Parisian area.

One female, aged 38 was formally accused earlier in the month with complicity in organised theft and illegal conspiracy intended to carry out unlawful acts.

Additionally, one male suspect, 37 years old, was charged with stealing and conspiratorial activities.

Both of these individuals, who have not been named publicly, have rejected all accusations.

The Method of the Robbery Was Carried Out

The heist happened when the team of four individuals used a stolen vehicle-mounted mechanical lift to breach the Galerie d'Apollon (Gallery of Apollo) through a terrace near the Seine River.

The men used a cutting disc to break into exhibition cases housing the jewellery.

The perpetrators stayed inside for a mere four minutes and made their escape on two motor scooters stationed outside at 09:38 in the morning, before changing to vehicles.

One taken artifact - a royal crown - was fallen in the flight but eight additional pieces of jewellery - including an emerald-and-diamond necklace that was gifted by Napoleon I his empress, Empress Marie-Louise - were stolen.

Protective Failures and Fallout

It has been stated that the robbery was executed by minor lawbreakers rather than organised crime professionals.

In the immediate aftermath of the heist, it was disclosed by the museum's director that the sole surveillance camera watching the Apollo Gallery was pointing away from the terrace used by the perpetrators to break in.

The president of the Louvre has later confessed that the establishment had not fulfilled in its obligations, but disputed allegations of security being ignored - saying that from the beginning of her tenure in the year 2021 she had been warning constantly of the need for more investment.

Improved Security Measures

Since the incident, security measures have been tightened around French heritage sites.

The Louvre has transferred a selection of its most valuable gems to the national bank after the theft.
