{'I could have killed them' - Lawson faces dangerous incident with F1 track officials

Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he narrowly avoided a potentially deadly collision during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two safety personnel ran across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event happened on the third rotation when safety workers were observed on the track as Lawson was returning to the race following an early pitstop to change his damaged front wing

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson spoke to his team engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you just see that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a brand new hard tyres, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Clearly there's been a failure in communication at some point but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a active circuit safety personnel can be allowed to just dash across the track like that. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Official Investigation Underway

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is currently investigating the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, the race directors was notified that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the regulatory authority

"During the third lap, safety personnel were notified and placed on standby to access the circuit and remove the wreckage once every vehicle had gone by"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had entered the pits, the directives to deploy officials were rescinded and a safety warning flag was raised in that section"
