Old Fishing Nets from French Coast Become Crucial Defense Against Russian Drones in the War Zone

On the harbor docks of the Breton shoreline, piles of discarded fishing nets have become a regular occurrence.

The usable duration of ocean trawling nets typically ranges between one to two years, following this period they become deteriorated and irreparable.

Presently, this marine-grade mesh, once used to trawl deep-sea fish from the marine bottom, is finding new application for another type of catch: hostile aerial vehicles.

Humanitarian Effort Converts Marine Waste

A French humanitarian organization has dispatched two shipments of nets measuring 280km to the conflict zone to safeguard military personnel and citizens along the frontline where hostilities peak.

Russia employs inexpensive unmanned aircraft armed with detonation devices, controlling them by radio command for ranges of up to 25km.

"Since the conflict began, the war has transformed. Previously we never considered about drones, but now it's a drone war," commented a charity logistics coordinator.

Tactical Use of Fishing Nets

Ukrainian forces use the nets to create corridors where aerial vehicle blades become trapped. This approach has been compared to web-building predators trapping prey in a net.

"The Ukrainians have told us they cannot use any old nets. They have been sent quite a few that are unusable," the representative explained.

"The nets we are sending are made of specialized material and used for ocean trawling to catch monkfish which are exceptionally strong and strike the mesh with a strength comparable to that of a drone."

Growing Implementations

Originally employed by doctors protecting medical camps near the battle area, the nets are now being used on transport routes, bridges, the healthcare center gateways.

"It's incredible that something so simple works so well," remarked the humanitarian director.

"We face no lack of fishing nets in this region. It creates difficulty to know how to dispose of them as multiple companies that recycle them have ceased operations."

Operational Difficulties

The aid association was formed after expatriate citizens contacted the founders requesting assistance with basic necessities and treatment resources for communities back home.

A team of helpers have delivered two lorry consignments of aid 1,430 miles to the Polish-Ukrainian frontier.

"When we learned that Ukraine sought protective gear, the coastal residents reacted rapidly," declared the charity director.

Aerial Combat Evolution

The enemy utilizes real-time visual vehicles comparable to those on the retail industry that can be piloted by remote radio control and are then loaded with explosives.

Russian pilots with live camera streams steer them to their targets. In certain regions, military personnel report that no movement occurs without attracting the attention of swarms of "destructive" kamikaze drones.

Protective Methods

The fishing nets are stretched between poles to create mesh corridors or used to protect fortifications and transport.

Friendly aerial vehicles are also equipped with sections of mesh to drop on hostile aircraft.

In recent periods, Ukraine was dealing with more than 500 drones each twenty-four hour period.

International Assistance

Multiple tons of old nets have also been provided by marine workers in Sweden and Denmark.

An ex-marine industry representative commented that regional fishermen are particularly willing to support the defense cause.

"They experience satisfaction to know their former gear is going to help save lives," he stated publicly.

Financial Constraints

The charity has exhausted the monetary means to transport further gear this year and discussions were underway for Ukraine to dispatch vehicles to pick up the nets.

"We plan to support acquire the material and prepare them but we don't have the monetary resources to continue running convoys ourselves," stated the charity spokesperson.

Real-World Limitations

An armed services communicator explained that protective mesh corridors were being established across the Donetsk region, about 75 percent of which is now stated as occupied and controlled by Russian forces.

She explained that hostile aircraft operators were increasingly finding ways to breach the netting.

"Mesh does not represent a complete solution. They are just a single component of protection against drones," she stressed.

A former produce merchant described that the people he interacted with were affected by the help from maritime regions.
