A 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased just days following being falsely blamed of stealing the ashes of a dead baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.
The young boy's mother and father discovered his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.
The inquest heard how his parent got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my apartment."
In a testimony presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was false.
An investigation report from authorities later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was not stolen in the first place".
News coverage about the alleged stolen remains generated social media comments, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".
The "social media content were extremely upsetting", she said.
She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other individuals' views really were important to him.
"It would have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was untrue".
The teenager was detained at his residence, but nothing was found. He was transported to a police station and later released under investigation.
Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his passing.
His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".
When she spoke to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the woman who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he wanted, but refuted removing anything.
In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed online after the allegations.
The inquest heard that one 19-year-old urged Kai to kill himself.
She had no worries on the night before he died, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and joking".
She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "family is completely shattered".
He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".
The hearing received testimony from school personnel at the local High School.
On November 8th, she "heard some students talking that Kai had been detained and that was the initial I heard".
"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.
After the conversation, the educator said she called Kai's parents' landline and provided a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the accusations.
The court learned his family said they never receive that communication.
Senior coroner told the inquest he would await reports regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future deaths report.
Delivering a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.
"Likely untruths were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of social media.
"On 11 November, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his questioning he was freed whilst investigations continued."
The official determined: "Exists no evidence that the acts or failures of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to discern his purpose."
